Google Ads Campaign for Jeep Wrangler Sales
This is a recipe, not a guarantee. How well any ad campaign performs depends on things no recipe can control: your budget, how crowded and expensive your industry's auctions are, the products you sell and what you charge for them, how well your website actually converts visitors, the quality of your customer support, your reviews and reputation, your creative, and plain timing. A perfect recipe on top of a weak offer or a broken website will still lose money — ads amplify what's already there, good or bad.
The budgets shown are suggestions only — yours could and should vary with your available funds and your goals. Follow this recipe with caution: make sure every step lines up with your budget and your business, and edit where necessary. We explain why each step exists, but nothing here is one-size-fits-all. Before you spend a dollar, be blunt with yourself about the list above — get your house in order, then use the recipe to learn and test. That's what it's for.
Check the rules that govern your industry before you run anything. Plenty of businesses carry advertising obligations that have nothing to do with the ad platforms: licensing boards, professional advertising standards, rules about what you may claim and how you must substantiate it, age restrictions, and consent laws covering email, texting, and calling. Those rules are yours to know, they vary by state and country, and they override any step in this recipe.
If you work in a licensed or regulated field — health and medical, legal, financial and lending, insurance, real estate, alcohol, firearms, cannabis, childcare, education, anything with a board or a license behind it — confirm what applies to you before you spend a dollar, and ask your attorney or your licensing body if you are not certain. Nothing on this site is legal advice.
This recipe uses Google Search campaigns and Google Vehicle Listing Ads (VLAs) exclusively. The build sequence is: lock in prerequisites first, then launch a tightly keyworded Search campaign to capture buyers already hunting for a Wrangler, then layer in VLAs to serve your live inventory to in-market shoppers on Google’s automotive surfaces — Search, Maps, and the Vehicle Listings tab. Meta and TikTok can reach Wrangler enthusiasts earlier in the funnel, but those deserve their own recipe.
This is for a franchised or authorized Jeep dealer that already has an ad account, conversion tracking, and a live inventory feed. The Wrangler buyer is a specific person: they’ve usually already decided on the model, they’re comparing trim levels (Sport, Sahara, Rubicon), negotiating on price or availability, and they move fast when the right unit is in stock. Generic dealership campaigns won’t cut it — this recipe is built around Wrangler-specific intent signals, trim-level keywords, and inventory-aware creative.
What can you afford to pay for a customer?
Advertising can only cost what's left after everything else. Put in what a typical order looks like and this works out the rest.
These are your numbers as you've typed them. Connect your store and we'll work this out from your actual orders instead — including the costs most people forget.
Prerequisites Checklist
Before spending a dollar, confirm every item below is live and verified. If you're missing more than one, stop and build the foundation first using a from-scratch Car Dealership Google Ads recipe.
- Google Ads account linked to a Google Business Profile for the dealership location.
- Conversion tracking: at minimum, phone calls from ads (30-second threshold), form submissions (lead form thank-you page), and direction requests — all firing correctly in Google Tag Manager and verified in the Conversions dashboard.
- Vehicle inventory feed: a Google Merchant Center account with an Automotive Feed (schema: vehicle listings) containing your current Wrangler stock, with make, model, trim, year, price, VIN, image, and landing-page URL populated. Feed must refresh at least daily.
- Landing pages: each Wrangler trim (Sport, Sahara, Rubicon, 4xe) should have a dedicated SRP or VDP URL — not the dealership homepage — with price, photos, and a visible lead form above the fold.
- Authorized dealer status: confirm you are a franchised Jeep dealer. Google and Stellantis co-op programs require this; it also governs what trademark terms you can bid on and how you must label ads (see Phase 2 notes).
- Reputation baseline: 4.0+ stars on Google with at least 50 reviews. Wrangler buyers research heavily; a weak review profile kills conversion rates regardless of ad quality.
Licensing note: Automotive advertising is regulated at the state level — dealer advertising rules, required disclosures on pricing and financing, and truth-in-lending requirements vary by state. Verify your obligations with your state's DMV or dealer association before running any price or payment claims in ad copy.
Make sure your Google Ads account is connected, your conversion tracking is actually firing (test it), your Wrangler inventory is in a live Google Merchant Center feed, and each trim has its own landing page. You also need to be a franchised Jeep dealer — that affects what you're allowed to say in ads. Check your state's dealer advertising rules before you write any copy mentioning price or monthly payments.
New to "funnel" talk? What top, middle, and bottom mean
Think of every person who could ever buy from you as water moving through a funnel. Top of funnel is strangers — people who've never heard of the business. Campaigns here buy attention and first visits, not sales, so expect cheap clicks and few purchases. Middle of funnel is people who've shown interest — they visited, engaged, or are comparing options. Campaigns here re-engage and build the case. Bottom of funnel is people ready to buy right now — searching for exactly what you sell or abandoning a cart. Campaigns here convert; the clicks cost the most because the intent is worth the most. Full funnel means automated campaigns that work every stage at once. One thing that surprises people: recipes usually start at the bottom — capture the demand that already exists before spending money creating new demand at the top.
Wrangler Intent Search Campaign
This is the revenue engine of the recipe. You're bidding on people who have already decided they want a Wrangler and are now in dealer-selection or trim-selection mode. These are bottom-funnel searches with short buying cycles — many convert within 48–72 hours of the first click. Use phrase and exact match only; broad match on Wrangler terms bleeds budget into Jeep merchandise, Wrangler jeans, and off-road parts queries instantly.
Trademark note: As an authorized Jeep dealer, you may bid on Jeep and Wrangler as keywords. However, Google's trademark policy means you cannot use "Jeep" or "Wrangler" as standalone text in your ad headlines unless Stellantis has granted explicit ad text authorization to your account. Use "Authorized Jeep Dealer," "New Wrangler Inventory," or trim names instead. Check your Stellantis co-op portal for approved copy.
Ad copy angles that work for Wrangler: (1) Trim-specific availability — "Rubicon 4xe In Stock — Test Drive Today"; (2) Price transparency — "See Our Wrangler Prices Online — No Haggle Quotes"; (3) Local urgency — "[City]'s #1 Jeep Dealer — Wranglers Ready to Drive"; (4) Financing hook — "Wrangler From $XXX/mo — Get Pre-Approved in 60 Seconds." Avoid generic "great deals" language; Wrangler buyers are savvy and respond to specifics.
Results depend heavily on your offer, your inventory depth, and your landing page conversion rate — the campaign settings alone don't close deals.
Reminder: budget figures are suggestions — scale to your funds and goals.
Targets people actively searching for a Wrangler by name, trim, or dealer — they're in dealer-selection mode and ready to submit a lead within days.
- In Google Ads, click + New Campaign → select Sales as the goal → choose Search as the campaign type → click Continue.
- Name the campaign 'Wrangler — Search — [City] — Evergreen'. Under Networks, uncheck Search Network partners and Display Network — Search only.
- Set location targeting to a 20–30 mile radius around your dealership (or your primary market zip codes). Set language to English.
- Set bidding to Maximize Conversions. Once you have 30+ conversions in a 30-day window, switch to Target CPA and set the target at 1.5× your current average CPA to avoid over-constraining delivery.
- Set daily budget to $50–$100. Do not use shared budgets at launch — you need clean data per campaign.
- Create Ad Group 1: 'Wrangler — General Intent'. Add keywords from the list below. Set all keywords to phrase or exact match only — no broad match.
- Create Ad Group 2: 'Wrangler — Rubicon'. Keywords: ["jeep wrangler rubicon for sale"], ["wrangler rubicon price"], ["rubicon 4xe dealer near me"]. Create Ad Group 3: 'Wrangler — Sahara'. Ad Group 4: 'Wrangler — Sport'. Splitting by trim lets you write trim-specific headlines and send traffic to trim-specific SRP/VDP pages.
- In each ad group, create 1 Responsive Search Ad with 15 headlines and 4 descriptions. Pin Headline 1 to a trim-specific hook (e.g., 'Wrangler Rubicon In Stock Now'). Pin Headline 2 to a dealer trust signal ('Authorized Jeep Dealer — [City]'). Leave Headline 3 unpinned for Google to test.
- Add Ad Extensions: Location extension (links your GBP), Call extension (track as a conversion), Sitelink extensions (links to each trim's SRP, financing page, trade-in tool, and service), Callout extensions ('No-Haggle Pricing,' 'Same-Day Test Drives,' 'Online Pre-Approval').
- Add negative keywords from the list below at the campaign level before launch. Review the Search Terms report weekly for the first 4 weeks and add new negatives as junk queries appear.

This Search campaign catches people who are already Googling things like 'Jeep Wrangler Rubicon for sale near me' or '2024 Wrangler Sahara price.' These are your hottest leads — they've picked the model and are choosing a dealer. You're only using phrase and exact match keywords so you don't waste money on people searching for Wrangler jeans or Jeep merchandise. Write your ads around specific trims and real prices, not vague promises. As an authorized dealer you can bid on Jeep/Wrangler keywords, but check Stellantis's rules before putting those words in your actual ad headlines.
Vehicle Listing Ads (Inventory Campaign)
Vehicle Listing Ads (VLAs) are Google's purpose-built format for dealerships — they pull directly from your Merchant Center automotive feed and show individual Wrangler units (photo, year, trim, price, mileage, dealer name) on Google Search, the Vehicle Listings tab, and Maps. This is not a generic Shopping campaign; it requires the automotive feed schema and a linked Merchant Center account. VLAs are particularly powerful for Wrangler because buyers often search by trim and price range, and seeing an actual in-stock unit with a real price outperforms a text ad for conversion rate at this stage.
VLAs sit at the bottom of the funnel alongside Search — they capture the same high-intent queries but with a visual, inventory-specific format. Run both simultaneously; they serve different ad slots and rarely cannibalize each other.
Feed quality is the biggest lever here. If your feed has missing images, stale prices, or incomplete trim data, VLA performance will be poor regardless of bidding strategy. Audit the feed weekly.
Serves real in-stock Wrangler units to buyers actively searching — the visual format and live pricing accelerate the decision for inventory-ready shoppers.
- Confirm your Google Merchant Center account has an approved Automotive Feed with Wrangler inventory. In Merchant Center, go to Products → Feeds and verify the feed status shows 'Active' with no critical errors on make, model, trim, price, or image fields.
- In Google Ads, click + New Campaign → select Sales → choose the 'Vehicle ads' campaign type (listed under Shopping in some account versions) → click Continue.
- Link your Merchant Center account when prompted. Select the country of sale.
- Name the campaign 'Wrangler — VLA — [City] — Evergreen'. Set location targeting to match your Search campaign radius exactly.
- Set bidding to Maximize Clicks at launch to gather impression and click data. After 2–3 weeks and 50+ clicks, switch to Target ROAS or Target CPA if conversion volume supports it.
- Set daily budget to $25–$50. VLAs have lower CPCs than Search text ads for automotive, but impression volume depends on feed size — a dealer with 5 Wranglers in stock will see lower volume than one with 20.
- Under Vehicle groups, start with 'All vehicles' to let Google match your full Wrangler inventory. After 2 weeks, subdivide by trim (Rubicon, Sahara, Sport, 4xe) to identify which units drive the most leads and adjust bids accordingly.
- Set ad scheduling to match your dealership's open hours plus 2 hours on either side — Wrangler buyers often research late evening; don't go dark at 5pm.
- Enable location extensions and call extensions. VLA clicks go to the individual VDP (vehicle detail page) from your feed URL — confirm each VDP loads correctly on mobile before launch.
- Monitor the 'Vehicle groups' report weekly. Pause or reduce bids on trims with zero impressions (feed issue) or high clicks/zero conversions (landing page issue).
Vehicle Listing Ads pull your actual Wrangler inventory — photos, trim, price, VIN — and show them as visual cards when someone searches for a Wrangler on Google. Think of it like Google Shopping but for cars. The setup requires your inventory feed to be live in Google Merchant Center. These ads work alongside your Search campaign, not instead of it — they show up in different spots and catch buyers who respond better to seeing a real unit than reading a text ad.
Seasonality, Bidding Adjustments, and Wrangler-Specific Timing
Wrangler demand is not flat year-round. Search volume spikes in three windows: (1) Spring (March–May) — tax refund season and the start of off-road/trail season drive the biggest annual surge; (2) Summer (June–August) — road trip and outdoor lifestyle intent stays elevated; (3) Model-year changeover (August–October) — prior-year Wranglers get discounted and buyers hunting deals flood in. December is typically the softest month for Wrangler specifically (holiday budget compression), though end-of-year dealer incentives can create a short spike in the last week.
Bid adjustments to make in Google Ads:
- Device: Wrangler buyers over-index on mobile for initial research but convert at higher rates on desktop for form fills. Set a +10–15% mobile bid adjustment for top-of-funnel awareness phases; for Search and VLA, monitor your device report and adjust based on your actual CPA by device — don't assume.
- Day/hour: Run an ad schedule report after 4 weeks. Wrangler leads typically peak Tuesday–Saturday, 10am–7pm local time. Reduce bids by 20–30% on Sunday evenings and Monday mornings where data confirms lower conversion rates.
- Audience bid adjustments (observation mode): Add In-Market audiences for 'Vehicles & Transportation > Auto Purchasers > Jeep' and 'SUVs & Trucks' in observation mode. After 30 days, apply +15–20% bid adjustments to segments converting above average.
Competitor context: Wrangler's primary conquest targets are Ford Bronco and Toyota 4Runner buyers. If you have conquest inventory or a strong trade-in offer, consider a separate ad group targeting [ford bronco vs jeep wrangler] and "toyota 4runner vs wrangler" queries — these are high-intent comparison searches where a well-crafted ad can flip a buyer.
Reminder: budget figures are suggestions — scale to your funds and goals.
Wrangler sales aren't the same every month. Spring is your biggest window — tax refunds plus trail season. Summer stays strong. August–October is good for prior-year clearance. December is usually slow. Adjust your bids up during the hot windows and pull back when data shows leads drying up. Also, add Google's in-market audiences in 'watch' mode so you can see if Jeep or SUV intenders convert better — then bid them up. And don't ignore Ford Bronco and 4Runner comparison searches; those buyers are still deciding and a good ad can win them over.
Measurement, Scale Rules, and Cut Signals
Primary KPIs for this campaign:
- Cost Per Lead (CPL): target $80–$180 depending on market competitiveness. Major metros will run higher. If CPL exceeds $250 consistently, audit landing page and offer before touching bids.
- Lead-to-appointment rate: track offline. Industry average for Wrangler-specific leads (high-intent, model-decided) is 30–50%. If yours is below 20%, the problem is sales process or lead quality, not the campaign.
- Impression Share (IS) and IS Lost to Budget: if IS Lost to Budget exceeds 20%, increase budget before touching bids. If IS Lost to Rank exceeds 30%, improve Ad Rank (Quality Score, landing page relevance, ad extensions).
- VLA Feed Health: check Merchant Center weekly. A feed error rate above 10% of your Wrangler inventory will suppress VLA delivery.
Scale signals (do these when you see them):
- CPL is stable below target for 2 consecutive weeks → increase daily budget by 20% and hold for 1 week before increasing again.
- IS Lost to Budget is above 15% → budget is the constraint, not the campaign; increase spend.
- Rubicon or 4xe trim ad group has CPL 30%+ below campaign average → break it into its own campaign with dedicated budget.
Hold signals:
- CPL is within target but conversion volume is low (fewer than 10 leads/week) → hold budget, give the algorithm more time, do not restructure.
- New model year just launched and inventory is thin → hold VLA budget until feed repopulates; shift budget to Search.
Cut signals:
- A keyword has 50+ clicks and zero conversions → pause it and investigate the landing page for that query.
- A VLA vehicle group has 100+ clicks and zero leads → check the VDP for that trim; likely a page or form issue.
- CPL exceeds 2.5× target for 3 consecutive weeks with no external explanation → pause the campaign, audit the full funnel (offer, page, tracking), and relaunch with changes.
Retargeting unlock: Do not run a standalone retargeting campaign until your Search + VLA campaigns are generating at least 500 unique site visitors per month. Below that threshold, your retargeting audience is too small to spend efficiently. Once you cross 500 monthly visitors, a separate Google Display or Demand Gen retargeting campaign targeting past VDP viewers is worth building.
Reminder: budget figures are suggestions — scale to your funds and goals.
Watch your cost per lead — $80–$180 is a reasonable target depending on your market. If it's higher, fix your landing page or offer before blaming the campaign. Check your impression share: if you're losing impressions because of budget, spend more; if you're losing them because of rank, improve your ads and pages. Scale up budget in 20% increments when things are working. Pause keywords that get lots of clicks but zero leads — that's usually a page problem, not a keyword problem. Don't build a retargeting campaign until you have at least 500 visitors a month; before that, the audience is too thin to matter.
The recipe card
- Before anything else: confirm the advertising rules for your own industry and location — licensing board requirements, professional advertising standards, what you may claim, age restrictions, and consent rules for email, texting, and calling. They override every step below.
- Build on Google Search + Vehicle Listing Ads — both target bottom-funnel Wrangler buyers but in different ad slots and formats
- Use phrase and exact match keywords only; broad match bleeds budget into Wrangler jeans, parts, and forum queries instantly
- Split Search ad groups by trim (Rubicon, Sahara, Sport, 4xe) so headlines and landing pages match what the buyer is actually searching
- VLA performance lives or dies on feed quality — audit Merchant Center weekly for missing images, stale prices, or trim errors
- Don't launch standalone retargeting until you hit 500 monthly site visitors; below that, fold remarketing into automated campaigns
